Remember Rotisserie Baseball?

Think big hair, President Reagan and a New York City restaurant called La Rotisserie. It was 1980 when a few journalists started something that has grown and expanded to just about every sport on the planet https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Mikkel_Boedker_T_shirt-19. We know that invention today as Fantasy Baseball. I was an early adopter. What I didn't know way back then was the motivation https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Brady_Tkachuk_T_shirt-20. Why be a chump and keep on cheering for the hometown team when owners were in it for glory and profit, and players moved where opportunity and cash flowed? Montreal Expo fans will be nodding.Enter Team Connor McDavid https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Anton_Forsberg_Pillow_Cover-94.Cheering on the Sens this year has a been a painful reminder that league rules and ownership practice are not there to charm fans of small market teams. This year's Trading Deadline pushed me to ask a tough question. At 61 years of age, do I want to keep on supporting, from my home in Victoria BC, a team owned by a man that publicly celebrates his low budget strategy? Do I want to watch one the very best playing the game today simply age and decline without ever having a shot at hoisting a Stanley Cup https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Wade_Redden_Pillow_Cover-226. And speaking of Erik Karlsson, will he wait as long as Alfie to move on when opportunity presents itself? This year's Sens have been amazing in terms of outcomes. With too many aged, but affordable players on the roster, and enough Cap Space to make NHLPA President Don Fehr spit on a frozen sidewalk, the Senators have still been nearly good enough to be in the top half of the league. However, if this team ends up with more than 82 points the reason will be the late-season race to the bottom being staged by teams like the Leafs. Add in the injuries, the barren stock of minor league talent and struggling youngsters like Jared Cowen, well…this group played way above their pay grade. But really – what fan wouldn't agree that in 2014/15 the very worst outcome would be falling just shy of the playoffs and not even having a shot at a top draft pick? And the final insult Artem Zub T-Shirt, not even an extra first round pick?Oh yeah. Back to Team Connor McDavid. No matter what team gets him – he's going to be a star. There will be a Stanley Cup in Connor McDavid's future.I'll miss listening to the Sens' games on radio. Joining the Silver Seven Sens discussion boards…. And mostly, catching up with old friends in Ottawa to share insights on the Sens' fate. I'll miss that. Not long from now, Connor McDavid will put on the jersey of my new team of choice Michael Amadio Hoodie. There will be a road to climb. But hope too. The team will take a few years to gather steam, and for Connor to become the most dominant hockey player on the world stage. Maybe three years. And then…talk of a Stanley Cup. And then, at the Trade Deadline, acquisitions. It's time for me to become the first member of Team Connor McDavid. Tim WoodsAka BCWOODS
